Maine Fall Foliage Tours
For a few weeks each October, Maine turns into something worth crossing the country for, with ridgelines running red and gold and the lakes below mirroring it all straight back at you. The catch is that it moves. Peak rolls south across the state through October, mountains first and coast last, so the hillside that glows this Saturday may be bare the next. Getting the timing right is nearly the whole game, so we take care of that. Hand us the weekend and with our Maine fall foliage tours, we will track down whatever is glowing brightest that weekend and build the day around it.
There is also a fair amount of road between you and the best of it, most of it winding mountain two-lane that deserves a good look, not your full attention on the wheel. So, you can settle in by the window, watch the ridges catch fire, and leave the switchbacks to a chauffeur who has taken them a hundred times. Some groups want several overlooks and short photo stops; others prefer one or two longer stops with time for lunch. Tell us how much walking and stopping you want, and we can plan the route around your group.
The Difference a Week Makes Up Here
The color is a moving target, and chasing it well takes local knowledge more than luck. We read state tourism reports the way others read the weather, so when the western mountains hit their stride in early October, we point you there; when the coast catches up a week later, we turn toward Acadia instead. A tour created around the week rather than a guess is the difference between a camera full of fiery reds and a long haul to a hillside already past its prime.
We keep the parts you would rather not think about. Cadillac Mountain caps summit access with a timed vehicle reservation from late May through October 25, at $6 through Recreation.gov, on top of the park entrance fee. Most slots release just two days ahead at 10 a.m., which is why we lock down the summit first. Worth knowing: after October 25, the requirement drops entirely, and the road stays open into November. The coast holds its color longest anyway, so a late-October Acadia day gets the view with none of the paperwork.
With our foliage tours in Maine, you set the pace, whether it is four stops or a slow roll with the windows down, and we shape the route to match.
Which Overlook Fits Your Day?
A few places in Maine turn the season into something you never forget. Here is where we point the day when the color is right:
- Pull off Route 17 at the Height of Land, and all of Mooselookmeguntic Lake opens up below you, the surrounding hills on fire by the first week of October. It draws more cameras than any vista in the western range, and we get you there for the morning light.
- Because the coast turns well behind the mountains, Acadia is where the season lingers once the inland trees have dropped, its Park Loop Road threading past granite, ocean, and gold hardwood all at once.
- Want the view without the hike? A short auto road climbs to Mount Battie in Camden, where Penobscot Bay spreads out below, framed edge to edge in fall’s brightest shades.
- Crowds thin out fast around Grafton Notch and the back roads near Bethel, quieter than the marquee routes, so a group after some quiet gets the ridgelines nearly to itself.
When a day chains several of these, we sequence the route so the light lands right at each one, and we drive you deep into the hills or along the coast on a single booking.
A Ride Sized to Your Group
Tell us the size of the party and the mood you are after, and the vehicle picks itself:
- Out for a quiet drive beneath the canopy, just the two of you? Our Mercedes-Benz S-Class seats a pair with big windows that turn every mile into a view.
- For a family or a few friends chasing the peak, our Lincoln Navigator brings the seats and the space so cameras and layers ride along without a squeeze.
- When a club or a full party of two dozen heads out together, our Coach Bus for 24 passengers has high windows and a warm cabin so nobody misses a ridgeline on a crisp morning.
Between these three and everything else we offer, no group is too small or too large for the trip.
Make the Most of the Season with Our Maine Foliage Tours
Color this good lasts barely two weeks, and the hours you spend inside it are better spent with your eyes on the hills than on a map. Leave the map to us. Our Maine foliage tours put a seasoned chauffeur behind the wheel and a route aimed at the deepest color going, so all you do is settle back and let the miles slide past the glass. As part of the ASL Group, we have chased more than a dozen autumns across this state, and it shows in the timing.
One catch worth knowing: peak weekends fill fast everywhere, lodging and chauffeurs alike, so the earlier you get in touch, the better your pick of dates. Give ASL Limo Maine a rough weekend to work with, and we can start tracking how things are coming along, then lock in the day that looks best. Prefer to talk it through first? That works too.
